Bernanke se encuentra irremediablemente acosado.

Rick Perry wisely refrained from repeating his threat to treat the “almost treasonous” Mr Bernanke “pretty ugly down in Texas”. Most of the rest, including Mitt Romney, the only viable moderate among them, were happy to put the boot in. “I’d be looking for somebody new,” he said.

Curioso oír este lenguaje amenazador contra la independencia, hasta ahora respetada, de la Reserva Federal. Indudablemente eso ha condicionado las últimas acciones de Bernanke, que no han tenido ambición ninguna. Él mismo lo ha reconocido, de su operación Twist,

Mr Bernanke said the impact would be equivalent to an interest rate cut of 50 basis points – “not something that [would] radically change the picture”, he conceded.

Los republicanos han encontrado la mejor vía  de asegurarse las elecciones presidenciales del 2012. Achacar la debilidad económica a la política "inflacionista" de Bernanke,

In reality, America’s relatively low inflation is falling again after a brief spike earlier this year mostly caused by higher oil and commodity prices.

Ya quisiéramos tener aquí, en Europa, la baja inflación de EEUU.  Por lo menos el BCE tendría una coartada menos para restringir el crédito. Son los tiempos que corren, de crítica destructiva contra todo, eso sí, en nombre de la patria. Se cepillarán a Bernanke, y en Juan de Mariana descorcharán cava sin burbujas y sin alcohol (porque llevan años con el tapón levantado); pero de momento han conseguido maniatar a la Fed, con lo que no habrá recuperación y las elecciones estarán casi ganadas.
